Dog Daycare Counsellor Job Description

 

The Dog Daycare Counsellor is primarily responsible for the supervision, control and management of daycare dogs and ensuring the safety of the playgroup. Additionally, the counsellor is responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the play areas as well as other areas of the facility as assigned. 

 

Summary of Primary Duties

 

Dog interaction

 

  • Interact with dogs in playgroups using appropriate toys and tools to ensure beneficial and safe levels of play and minimizing stress levels of all dogs in playgroup

  • Maintain visual observation of dogs at all times and spread attention and play among all dogs in playgroup

  • Control level of play by following dog management and control procedures and instructions provided by the Daycare Manager

  • Use proper dog handling techniques and dog introduction procedures

  • Use appropriate praise and dog redirection methods

 

Cleaning

 

  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of play and rest areas

 

Reporting

  • Report any unusual behaviour, eliminations or injuries to the Daycare Manager immediately

  • Review the special needs list and manage dogs as instructed

  • Complete the interaction reports for all dogs in playgroup

  • Complete maintenance or repair reports as needed

  • Follow all daycare procedures and regulations consistently

 

Driving

 

  • Dog Daycare Counsellors with Driver responsibilities will also be responsible for dog collection and drop off

 

Other

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Skills & Experience

 

  • Previous work experience in caring for dogs 

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

  • Proven ability to follow instructions and develop new skills and knowledge

  • Previous work experience demonstrating dependability

  • Evidence of customer service skills

  • Be comfortable and confident handling dogs of all breeds

  • A flexible and ‘can do’ attitude

  • Must be prepared to work in all weather and conditions

 

Mandatory requirements

 

  • Full, clean, driving licence for a minimum of five years

  • DBS check
